Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, whichprovide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.

If successful on the programme you may be given the opportunity to work part-time during your final year of study and/or be offered the opportunity to return as a graduate.

Working as part of the International Purchasing Office for Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) region, based in the Cummins Midrange diesel engine manufacturing facility at Darlington, North East England. The EMEA purchasing office is primarily responsible for the management of suppliers in this region supplying products to our UK and overseas locations and provides an exciting opportunity to sample a purchasing career in a dynamic global business environment.

The placement is a one-year structured role, key elements include:

  • Key project work in support of departmental objectives
  • Detailed involvement in Functional Excellence – opportunity to work with other Business Units to help share common processes, tools and resources to better achieve business goals
  • Working with a group of suppliers – supporting cost reduction, capacity planning, delivery/quality performance, risk mitigation
  • Data analysis in support of Low Cost Country sourcing/cost reduction opportunities
  • Engagement across a number of teams, gaining commodity experience
  • Close integration with Supplier Quality

Training provided :-

  • Presence of a mentor as a guide through the placement year
  • Tools and skills training specific to the role
  • Engine appreciation course
  • Presentation and communication skills
  • Practices and procedures

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Working towards a degree – preferably Engineering/Business related although not limited to these subjects
  • Positive attitude, strong personal motivation
  • Communication skills
  • A Levels (or equivalent)
  • Team work
  • IT Skills/programme knowledge
