Description

Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, whichprovide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.

If successful on the programme you may be given the opportunity to work part-time during your final year of study and/or be offered the opportunity to return as a graduate.

The role will give the candidate experience in working within a NPI (New Product Introduction) Buyer Department. Responsibilities will include :-

  • Purchasing assigned items and executes buying strategies set out by the function at optimum cost and lead times.
  • Analyse sourcing information and present finding for cost reduction, process improvement while maintaining a high quality product and delivery of service both within the function and customers both internal and external.
  • Involvement both supporting and leading various projects from conception to closure within cost and on time.
  • Procures inventory, supplies and capital goods, obtains quotations and raises orders on vendors.
  • Expedites orders to ensure that they are delivered on time in full.
  • Analyse sourcing and purchasing initiatives, follows processes in support of the delivery of cost effective and high quality goods and services.
  • Prepares and presents recommendations of improvement opportunities and alternative courses of action to senior purchasing/sourcing leaders.
  • Understand and adhere to policies and procedures and champion the NPI purchasing common processes.
  • Supports purchasing/sourcing management in activities such as price benchmarking, vendor management, process analysis, market and industry research, model building.
  • Conducts minor supplier negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently as well as to work as part of a team.
  • Good Microsoft package experience
  • Demonstrates working to committed deadlines.
  • An understanding of MRP systems is ideal but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge of supply chain practices.
  • Structured approach to problem solving and of project management, combined with the ability to manage concurrent projects and deal with various priorities.
  • Awareness of purchasing ethics and risk management.
