Our Software Engineering undergraduate roles will be office based, learning from experienced engineers. Our aim is to provide you with an insight into our business, whilst gaining valuable experience of software engineering to support your studies.

What you'll be doing

Technology at Balfour Beatty is much more than just a tool it's a driving force. We're harnessing some of the biggest ideas out there, using them to take our business and our industry to the next level. Your day to day responsibilities may include:

  • Documenting and demonstrating solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
  • Preparing and installing solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming
  • Improving operations by conducting systems analysis; recommending changes in policies and procedures
  • Updating job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations
  • Protecting operations by keeping information confidential
  • Providing information by collecting, analysing, and summarising development and service issues
  • Accomplishing engineering and organisation mission by completing related results as needed
  • Developing software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle

Who we're looking for

What we're looking for:

  • Have a flexible approach to work and able to adapt to change (you may be required to relocate as part of the programme)
  • Have a team focus with the ability to communicate and build relationships with a wide variety of people at all levels
  • Have a driven, self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work on your own initiative and influence key decisions

What you'll need:

  • Be studying for a BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons) in Software Engineering, expecting to achieve a 2:1
  • Experience of Visual Studio development environment
  • Basic understanding of LINQ, SQL, SQL Server, Lambda expressions
  • Ideally, have a full UK driving licence
  • Be eligible to work and live in the UK
