What is engineering at ABF?

Engineering is integral to keeping our manufacturing plants running and introducing new technologies to match our ever changing customer demands. Our Engineering scheme is designed to give you the support and opportunities required to develop your skills and make a real difference to our business. We expect you to learn quickly on the job, challenge ideas and apply problem solving techniques in real life situations. At the end of the scheme you will have gained the depth and breadth of knowledge required to become a future engineering leader in our business.

What will you be doing?

During the scheme you will complete placements spread across our different manufacturing sites in the UK. These placements will give you exposure to all our engineering activities; from getting stuck in at site level, to planning and implementing wider business improvements. You will also get an insight into the different functions across the business. This will build your network, knowledge and confidence to enable you to reach your career goals.

As an engineering graduate you can expect:

  • Hands-on maintenance role to develop your manufacturing plant knowledge.
  • Maintenance planning role, scheduling maintenance activities for a full factory.
  • Production line manager role in charge of a factory line and team.

What support can you expect?

Whilst the ABF Engineering programme gives you real responsibility from day one and encourages you to be independent, you will be supported throughout. As a graduate you will have:

You will also receive regular programme-specific and general development training sessions throughout the 2 years, which will help you with skills such as delivering presentations, managing time effectively and project management, project engineering role, executing improvements or installation of new equipment.

  • Your graduate cohort
  • Your buddy who will help you to settle in
  • Your Line Manager and team to support you day to day
