WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

TNO’s Self-Sovereign Integration Lab offers a wide variety of internship, MSc and PhD-level assignments. Some assignments are practical: develop prototypes of a real societal use case based using SSI technologies. Other assignments are more fundamental: develop architectures and implementations to integrate multiple SSI technologies, some of which may be blockchain based, while other are not. The assignments cover many domains: security (what are the networked risks of SSI, and how to manage these), interoperability (how to interconnect SSI domains), legal (SSI in relation to the new EU GDPR privacy regulation), business (upcoming SSI business ecosystems) and technical (developing application frameworks for SSI). Some assignments are carried out individually, whereas others are group assignments. In all cases, there will be a close connection with TNO’s scientific, applied and customer projects.

WHAT DO WE REQUIRE OF YOU?

You are an enthusiastic (team of) student(s) with academic capacity and a hands-on approach. Experience as developer/programmer is required, as all assignments require implementation of proofs-of-concept. You have a background in computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or similar. You will disseminate your results not only in a report, but also in presentations, demonstrations and publications, where possible.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT OF YOUR WORK SITUATION?

Your work will be carried out in our Cyber Security and Robustness (CSR) department, which consists of approximately 50 enthusiastic, mostly academic professionals with in-depth knowledge on (technical) cyber security and quantitative models and algorithms. You will work together with our team of SSI experts, and where possible with our Dutch stakeholders (e.g. Techruption, Dutch Blockchain Coalition, IRMA) and our international partners (e.g Sovrin). Your work at TNO will be supervised by one or two of these SSI experts.

WHAT CAN TNO OFFER YOU?

You want to work on the precursor of your career, an internship provides you with the opportunity to take a good look at your prospective future employer. TNO also goes a step further. It’s not just looking that interests us, you and your knowledge are essential to our innovation. That’s why we attach a great deal of value to your personal and professional development. You will, of course, be properly supervised during your internship, and be given the scope for you to exceed yourself and your expectations. We also provide suitable compensation for internships. Click here to find more info about internships at TNO.

Innovation with purpose: that is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application. TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the competitive strength of industry and the well-being of society in a sustainable way.
