Summary of Role

As an Assistant Portfolio Manager (APM) in the Delegated Investment Solutions team you will be responsible for providing first class service to a diverse number of clients and WTW solutions. The APM on a given solution/client fulfils a key role in the day to day portfolio management process, working closely with the Portfolio Manager for each solution and support teams to ensure that our intellectual capital is reflected in portfolios in a manner consistent with that client/solutions goals. You will have the opportunity in this role to work with a broad range of sophisticated clients and would build experience working with clients that use our solutions. We have a very broad investment remit, meaning you will gain experience investing across many asset classes and opportunities spanning the listed and unlisted/illiquid spaces. As part of the wider UK Delegated team, you would support more junior colleagues as they build their knowledge. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of markets, investment managers, broader industry matters and your consultancy skills through training and by working closely with a diverse range of clients and colleagues. We are open to discussing flexible working requirements.

This role can be based in our Leeds or London office.

The Role

Key responsibilities of the role are:

Clients and Excellence

  • Develop a working understanding of all Model Portfolio positions as well as the rationale for the inclusion of each
  • Work closely with Portfolio Management, Asset Class, and Manager Research Teams to develop proposals for model and client/solution portfolio changes, identifying and following up on areas requiring further analysis or research
  • Takes ownership of PM actions and proactively ensures any relevant context is covered across the full book of clients
  • Demonstrates good judgement and analysis in inputting into portfolio management decisions
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively internally to articulate arguments to support views
  • No gaps in understanding of content in areas of specialism
  • Ensure that any proposed portfolio management decisions are in line with client/solution guidelines and objectives
  • Develop deep knowledge of in-house trading systems and processes used to execute portfolio management decisions
  • Coordinate with legal and Implementation teams to ensure correct execution of portfolio management decisions
  • Propose trades and prepare the agenda and supporting materials for Portfolio Management meetings with the help of more junior staff
  • Draft and maintain clear documentation of portfolio decisions, ensuring audit trail for client specific differences from model portfolios
  • Support coordination of approval meetings for new investment managers / opportunities
  • Carry out ad-hoc analysis/projects as needed

People

  • Build strong relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels.
  • Manage and coach junior team members, disseminate expertise and ensure projects are delivered as efficiently as possible
  • Actively participate in the knowledge and skills development of others

Financial

  • Contribute to development of scalable processes to deliver value add portfolio management efficiently to multiple clients and solutions
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of time recording for management purposes
  • Meet project deliverables through effective resource utilization

The Requirements

  • Strong asset class and liability management knowledge, likely obtained through pursuit/achievement of CFA and/or Actuarial qualification.
  • Proven ability to identify solutions to problems and implementing them effectively
  • Motivation to learn and seek out opportunities to develop personal skills, experience and network
  • Knowledge of UK pension schemes would be preferable but not essential
  • High degree of understanding of investment principles, different asset classes and investment management approaches, and the goals of portfolio construction
  • Strong understanding of risk, and the benefits and drawbacks of different risk measures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Team focused attitude and working practice to deliver innovative, timely and accurate solutions
  • Good IT (especially Excel and PowerPoint) skills
