Role profile

BT are at the forefront of innovation and technology. The digital and physical worlds are blurring, and the pace of change keeps increasing. With the best networks and smart innovative products, the quality of our technology sets BT apart from the pack. It’s the powerhouse of everything we do and has a unique position in the business, bringing together technical and commercial expertise with insight and passion for customer experience.

Whether you’re looking at future innovation, defining strategy, protecting customers through security, or working with teams across BT to develop new products, tools and systems – or maintain current ones – there are countless challenges to tackle and opportunities to develop during our rotational programme.

This programme focuses on building a broad future skill-set for our graduates, and to achieve this you’ll complete rotations within the Technology division. Depending on your location, you’ll have the opportunity to rotate across different functions such as IT, Dynamic Infrastructure and Converged Service Platforms including TV and Broadband.

Across these business areas you could develop:

  • Software Skills - designing, testing and operating our systems which are used to deliver vital services to our customers, who vary from large, multinational corporations to individuals using our products and services at home. You could develop these skills by working on voice (fixed or mobile), TV, content delivery, mobility or security and you’ll have the opportunity to not only develop knowledge of the software lifecycle but also put it into practice
  • Network skills – by getting involved in all aspects of our core networks, designing, building, testing and operating fixed and mobile network solutions across the globe. You’ll develop your skills by working with technical innovators in communication, electronics and information technology and getting involved in a range of technologies transforming our network platforms and services
  • Technical Consultancy skills –you’ll work on highly technical projects and programmes to make sure they are rolled out successfully. You’ll also work with our technical teams to look at new and innovative ways customers could use our products and services to make sure everything we create is commercially viable.

You’ll need to demonstrate your passion for technology, and you’ll also need the ability to be able to translate complex ideas to our customers and the business acumen to see valuable opportunities when they arise.

If you don’t have a computer science background we’ll start your programme with an off-job training programme. We’ll continue to give you the training and development you need to make sure you’ve got the skills and knowledge to succeed in each rotation

If you’re initially based in London or Ipswich, you’re likely to be able to complete your rotations in the same place. If you’re initially based in another location, you may have the opportunity to move in order to develop your breadth of experience and skill set
