Intern in the ESA Archives Team / DG's Cabinet

Our team and mission
The DG Cabinet guarantees Member States access to the necessary information to support the decision making process and maintains the ESA archives for access, fruition and exploitation of its member states and its’s scientific community.
Since 2002, the Italian establishment of ESA, ESRIN in Frascati hosts the ESA Archives also referred as European Centre for Space Records (ECSR). The Centre preserves to date:
• 45 analogue collections;
• Around 3 million pages of records dating from 1964;
• A vast ESA photography collection.
ESA offers the possibility to have an internship in ESTEC working with the ESA Archives team. Working with us, you will contribute to value the content of the ESA Archives and to make them accessible for internal users. The proposed project focuses on the preparation of specific inventories of series in the ESA Archives using the methodology and electronic tools adopted to valorise the ESA space records legacy.

Internship activities and learning areas
Topic 1 – Creation of record schedules for ESA archives
Specifically, your internship will consist in supporting the senior archivists and record managers in enriching the knowledge of the collections and series related to Science, technology, engineering or administrative areas.
Your role as an intern will be to:
use the electronic tool to enrich metadata of the collections based on ISAD(G);
monitor the electronic transfer from area Document Management System into the ESA Archives;
support the definition of record schedules;
support the review of the file plan.
The internship will enable you to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the day-to-day work of ESA departments and services; you will have the opportunity to work in a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic environment.

Applicants should preferably be in their final or second to last year of a University course at Masters Level (or equivalent) in a technical or scientific discipline.
Additional Requirements
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
The topic listed in Section 2 above requires such educational knowledge and background in archives, history and/or records management.
