Why join us?

CMR is one of the UK’s most exciting companies to be joining right now. The scale of our ambition to build a world-class medical devices company in Cambridge is matched only by the breath-taking innovation that underpins our next generation of surgical robot. We’re an award-winning company that plans to significantly disrupt the way surgery is performed for the benefit of millions of patients all around the world.

Our values are to be ambitious, humble, people focused, fair and responsible. If you share these values, our passion for improving lives, and have the skills to make a real difference to the way minimal access surgery is developed and delivered, then it’s a great time to join us.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting the team to achieve on-time delivery of high-quality software. You will help us achieve this by:

  • Managing the hardware used by the software team – to be able to develop and test our software the team needs access to working hardware (principally robot arms and surgeon consoles) and we need someone to work with our service and maintenance teams to ensure everything is kept in good working order.
  • Onboarding new starters – ensuring they have the training, kit and working space that they need.
  • Preparation of software release documentation and verification reports – helping ensure that changes are properly documented, and test reports completed.
  • Assistance with running of software and system tests – an opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with our exciting technology (depending on the interests of the candidate).
  • Supporting the team leads to create a fantastic working environment for our product software teams – whether that’s helping organise BBQs, helping fix some business process that’s causing everyone a headache, or discovering the team really needs an ice cream maker!

In addition, you will be supporting our software Scrum Masters to:

  • Prepare for and run Sprint retrospectives – both at the software and wider product level. And, importantly, making sure that real change and improvement happen as a result of the learnings from retrospectives.
  • Perform ‘backlog grooming’ – helping ensure that that the work of the team is well defined and prioritised according to business need.

We’re a high growth company and as such roles change and evolve. We’d expect that in the future you would to be willing to turn your hand to supporting some of our other teams who are designing, manufacturing and servicing our world-class product.

About You

A natural communicator hopefully goes without saying, but in addition we’d like you to have:

  • a love of creating well-defined processes that help teams run smoothly
  • a drive to get the details right – you’re probably the sort of person who hates loose ends, documents that aren’t quite right or actions that haven’t been followed up.
  • either a technical degree (e.g. engineering, maths, physical sciences) or experience of working in a product development environment with a track record of creating high quality written technical documentation.
  • a passion and energy for creating a great working environment for the wider team

The following experience would be highly desirable:

  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment, especially using Scrum.
  • Experience of working in a medical product development organisation, and within an ISO13485 quality management system.
  • Experience of facilitating or leading project planning
