Are you an exceptional systems researcher excited by the opportunity to invent the future of cloud storage? Are you eager to work with physicists, optical scientists, laser specialists, electrical and mechanical engineers in a multi-disciplinary team, empowered to get stuff done? Do you love your ideas enough to help build them into working software systems?

The Project Silica team is developing a revolutionary storage technique using femtosecond lasers to write data in glass, and read it back out using powerful Machine Learning image processing - visit our project webpage for more details: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/project-silica/. You would be part of a broad team of researchers who are developing innovative optical approaches to data storage for the cloud era. This is a great opportunity for a researcher in Systems to design and develop the control systems and software to drive the hardware, and build a cloud-native system with real impact on the product teams that are responsible for delivering cloud storage.
