Creating the cars of tomorrow is a challenge around 40,000 passionate Jaguar Land Rover colleagues take on every day. The way cars are created and driven is changing. And we are leading that change. Our vision is for a cleaner, smarter, more connected world where autonomous, connected, electrified and shared vehicles will replace the environmentally impactful world of the internal combustion engine. Throughout our history we have always taken on the challenges of creating the most prestigious, sustainable and desirable cars.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Internal combustion engines have dominated automotive propulsion since cars were introduced, but our objectives are changing. We must therefore continue to develop and refine quality combustion engines, whilst expanding more into hybrid and electric motors, catering to the demands of today and of the future.

At Jaguar Land Rover, our propulsion engineering teams are responsible for designing and developing the world class engines, transmissions, drivelines and electric motors that provide the driving force behind our vehicles.

The propulsion engineering teams use some of the most advanced techniques, facilities and knowledge to stay ahead of the competition, understand and predict customer demand, and respond quickly to changing technological, environmental and legislative factors that are driving such dramatic changes within the market. In order to develop your skills and knowledge to support this, you will work in a range of different environments using a mixture of engineering tools - such as Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Computer Aided Design (CAD), problem solving and data analysis techniques. This will support the development of your technical knowledge at either component or system level from design to the operation of a variety of propulsion systems from the internal combustion engine to fully electric. In doing so you will gain a full understanding of the concept, design, development, optimisation and delivery of the components and systems that you work on which will start you on your journey to become a world class engineer with Jaguar Land Rover.

You may be working as a fuel systems design and release engineer, responsible for the design development, release, validation and sign off fuels and urea system components. The role includes requirements capture, quality planning, design development, supporting concept development, supplier liaison, rig testing, system validation and sign off. This provides excellent exposure for building technical knowledge of fuel and urea distribution systems. The role requires building close working relationships within other areas of engineering such as Electrical, Body and Chassis engineering, as well as teams within manufacturing. Another area you may work in is hybrid calibration which includes fine-tuning the torque delivery, energy management and “modes and transitions” for our electrified vehicles. The team tests and verifies the base level of engine management software and optimises it for a variety of parameters.

A large proportion of the role is spent bug fixing the prototype vehicles as the maturity of the hardware increases to the production intent. There may also be the opportunity for simulation-based work, to conduct driveline simulations or emissions test cycles to optimise the performance of the vehicles within the virtual realm. This is a challenging and fulfilling role where you have opportunities to tackle new problems every day, and gain knowledge of all the hybrid components integral to the future of the business.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Excellence runs throughout our entire business and we expect you to be the same. So as well as a degree in mechanical engineering; electronic or electrical engineering; software engineering; computer science; chemical engineering or mechatronics engineering at 2:2 level or higher, you’ll need drive, creativity, a keen eye for detail, and a never-ending commitment to delivering results.

Through your placements in your assigned area of Engineering, you’ll discover our dedication to developing excellence runs throughout the business. Your innovation and creativity will be challenged every day, as you develop a rigorous and commercially focused approach to your work.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

Your innovation and creativity will be challenged every day, as you develop a rigorous and commercially focused approach in your work. And, with on-going support from industry leading experts and continual learning opportunities, you’ll quickly realise that our programmes have been designed to be as inspiring as the pioneering vehicles you’ll help produce.

Whichever part of the business you join your hard work and contribution deserves recognition. You’ll receive a competitive salary of £29,000 per annum, a £2,000 joining bonus, along with a generous holiday allowance. There are a range of other benefits and regular social events so plenty of chances to make friends and have fun too.
