Role Profile

The Air Sector of BAE Systems is responsible for the design and build of fixed wing and unmanned military and training aircraft, as well as providing training, support and information services for the UK RAF and other customers worldwide. Air Sector Engineering is split into 23 engineering disciplines. This general aerospace engineering role covers a number of those disciplines which include Aerodynamics, Electromagnetics, Structures, Integration, Airworthiness, Support, Mission Systems, Information Systems, Test Engineering and Flight Systems.

What you will be doing… (Role Duties and Responsibilities)

On an undergraduate placement an individual would be expected to be involved in a number of areas, maybe at different sites, in order to develop a broad understanding of aircraft systems and the activities undertaken in the design, development, test, maintenance and support of such systems. During the placement(s) the undergraduate will be expected to ‘home in’ on a specific engineering discipline that meets the needs of the business and the aspirations of the individual. Roles may include the design, development, qualification, certification and support of various Avionic systems such as Navigation; Communications, Sensors e.g. Radar; Armaments; Defensive Aids; Data Monitoring & Recording; Displays & Controls; Ground Support & Test Systems.

Opportunities in Structures, for example, may include Structural Integration, Stress Analysis, Fatigue & Fracture, Dynamics, Loads, Weights, Qualification & Certification, Build-Line, In Service, structural health monitoring (SHM).

Opportunities in Flight Systems may include the design, development, qualification, certification and support of safety critical vehicle systems or Fuel Systems, Crew Escape, Life Support, Thermal Management, Propulsion, Flight Controls, Electrical Power Generation & Distribution and Integrated Vehicle Health Management.

Entry Requirements and what we are looking for

To apply, you’ll need to be on course for achieving a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree in any STEM subject, Systems, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
