Role Profile

As a Mechanical Engineer you’ll be the one who turns ideas into products. You’ll be involved in the design, development and testing of complex systems operating in harsh environments. In the early stages of a project, you’ll apply scientific principles and technical information to generate concept ideas. After this, you’ll select the most suitable design and turn it into a viable solution.

Our military and commercial programmes require us to push our capabilities and technologies to the limit of what is achievable today. This raises many challenges for the system as it must ultimately meet both our customer’s stringent safety requirements and bring leading edge performance to give competitive advantage wherever applied.

What you will be doing… (Role Duties and Responsibilities)

Successful applicants will form part of a multi-disciplined engineering development team involved in the development, design, manufacture and test of a number of new and legacy munitions products for UK and export customers within the Heavy Munitions Integrated Delivery Team (HM IDT). The specific role will involve you in all stages of the product lifecycle; concepts, development, testing, qualification, production and in service support within one of the engineering teams based in Glascoed, South Wales. Responsible for integrating the requirements of a number of engineering disciplines into a cohesive whole. Main responsibilities and duties could include but not be limited to:

• Assisting in the analysis of customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements.

• Carry out engineering calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action.

• Developing inspection and quality controls

• Assisting in trade studies and supplier selection, including equipment/supplier surveys and selection.

• Attending trials and providing technical advice where required.

• The generation and review of technical reports and other technical documentation
