Description of assignment

Slotting is defined as the intelligent assignment of products (SKUs) to pick locations in a warehouse or distribution center for the purpose of optimizing material handling efficiency. With the strategic placement of SKUs in pick zones the following goals can be achieved:

  • Optimization of the replenishment process
  • Balancing of workload
  • Reduction of processing time

The traditional way of assigning SKUs is based on heuristic approach, the performance of which is not high enough. The objective of this assignment to investigate whether an AI-based slotting solution can lead to better performance.
