About us

With 80.000 talents working in 68 countries, we are one of the biggest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security. In the Netherlands, where 2000 employees are based, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we work on radars for naval vessels, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communication equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions, research & development for radar tech (in collaboration with TU Delft).

The software department of the Application Engineering cluster is responsible for the software development in Combat Management and Radar- and Optical sensors for worldwide navies- and defense systems. The work is performed in multi-disciplinary agile teams with specialists in software/system/test engineering and functional design.

About the assignment

The User Defined Operational Picture (UDOP) is intended for non-combat operations (border patrol, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, humanitarian aid and relief, etc.). It provides the operator with the means to analyse and understand his surroundings given geospatial, historical and trend data. The current Luciad based UI has grown into a dockable framework with increasing clutter for the operator. New functionality hinders the focus of the operator and reduces the overall user experience and operator performance.

You will be investigating the possibility of having a new (possibly time/map-centric) front-end for the UDOP that ensures the operator can focus on his most important task: situation awareness and understanding.

The assignment will be focused on search for future-proof technologies and technical architecture for the UDOP front-end. This will imply a simple re-design of the overall UI (main structure and navigation). The outcome should allow future UI design changes to be carried out more easily and efficiently.
