University Corporate Office - Education & Student Affairs

Education & Student Affairs (ESA) provides educational support by taking care of education and student administration, coordinating the education policy, supporting and supervising Dutch and international students and PhD candidates, providing training in teaching and other areas, giving educational advice and support and organising sport & culture activities. ESA is made up of the departments Education Service Centre, Academic Services, Extension School and X. ESA employs around 250 employees. ESA is known within the TU Delft for the high-quality service it provides and has a pro-active and solution-oriented culture.

The Academic Services Department is responsible for Student Development and Teaching & Learning Services (TLS), including support for various educational innovative programmes such as the Extension School for Open & Online Learning and the TU Delft Teaching Academy. The department’s mission is to be a catalyst for educational innovation at the TU Delft.

The TLS team, which you will be part of, aims to be a partner for educational change and the development of teaching skills by offering effective, efficient, and accessible services, with state-of-the-art knowledge and understanding of education, innovation, and support systems. The team consists of 30 people working in three teams: Support, Learning Development, and Educational Innovation.

Functie omschrijving

As Learning Developer you will be part of a team creating advanced learning modules for open, online and blended courses for learners, professionals and students. You will have considerable experience designing and developing online and blended courses, preferably with advanced knowledge about assessment.

In this role, you will partner with the academic staff to create outstanding courses. Your project management skills contribute to your success in this role as you will be responsible for managing multiple projects.

Your tasks include the following:

  • Guiding course teams in the entire process of designing, producing, delivering and evaluating online or blended courses or programmes.

  • Devise complex technical methods and processes to meet new and unique eLearning and web requirements and resolve technical problems.

  • Providing advice to teachers, exam committees and faculty management on how to setup the assessment on course and curriculum level.

  • Work independently and interact effectively with various faculty in the TU Delft organisation.

  • Recognise, recommend and participate in the development of standards and procedures that support quality improvement in the TU Delft.

  • Provide project management for learning projects with tight deadlines. These projects bring together people from various departments and backgrounds to develop content, technical specifications and functional prototypes for the Extension School.

  • Develop and provide workshops and trainings for academic staff.

  • Meet all internal deadlines according to project plan regardless of project limitations.

  • Participate in educational innovation projects for online courses and in the TU Delft Teaching Lab.

Functie eisen

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • Master of Education (MEd) in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related experience plus 2 year recent curriculum design and/or course development experience in online education;

  • Background in engineering and/or math is a plus;

  • Keen sense of organisation and attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated ability to handle unforeseen difficulties and obstacles with ease;

  • Excellent team player that is able to work on complex projects with a group of other course developers;

  • Ability to work on a tight, rapidly-changing schedule;

  • Experience with using ICT in education, such as digital assessment, e-moderating, online teaching methods and platforms;

  • A committed consultant with strong communication skills in English; mastery of Dutch is a plus;

  • Experience in higher education;

  • Experience as a teacher of online education is a plus;

  • Experience with D2L Brightspace and/or edX is a plus.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

It is a position with a size of 30 - 40 hours per week (0.8 - 1.0 FTE). It is a temporary employment contract for a period of 1 year with extension possibilities. The salary is based on scale 11 from the collective agreement for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3637 and a maximum of € 4978 gross per month for a full-time appointment. You will be classified on the basis of knowledge and experience. You will accrue pension via the ABP pension fund.

Besides of course the holiday allowance in May, you will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December. You can also compile a part of your terms of employment package yourself with the help of the Individual Terms and Conditions package, including buying and selling leave hours.
