The opportunity

Position: Identity & Infrastructure Engineer

Department: Enterprise IT

Reports to: Senior Technology Manager

Location: Bristol

The opportunity

The Identity and Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for operating and developing the infrastructure that supports our internal users around the world (both physical servers and a large AWS environment), and operating our Identity and Access Management function. The successful candidate will become a key member of the team, providing 3rd line support, configuring SSO for new applications, managing and securing Active Directory / Azure AD and administering our Windows Server estate. They will be expected to research and identify solutions based on requirements from our internal customers and deliver project work alongside our BAU support requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Owning and resolving reported issues, proactively identifying issues and resolving before they cause an impact, completing project work independently and adhering to processes
  • Problem solving - intermediate to advanced troubleshooting skills, including the use of monitoring tools such as Splunk, Azure Analytics, Cloudwatch and perfmon
  • Delivering quality - providing detailed, timely updates on user issues, autonomously producing documentation and updating production incident tickets
  • Communicating - transparently communicating to the wider Enterprise IT team and more senior project stakeholders
  • Working with others - Working with others within the IIE team, wider EIT team and other parts of tech

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Windows Server configuration, operation and troubleshooting
  • Performance monitoring / alerting
  • Advanced Active Directory experience, with a focus on security
  • Microsoft infrastructure services (DHCP, DNS, DFS etc)
  • Microsoft ADFS, including implementing and troubleshooting SSO
  • Experience troubleshooting complicated issues that may affect multiple users or sites

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Microsoft Azure AD setup, operation and troubleshooting
  • SSO using Azure AD
  • Operating and monitoring servers using AWS
  • Azure experience outside of AAD
  • Scripting (Powershell/Python)
  • Automation of infrastructure deployment / infrastructure as code

Personal characteristics

The ideal candidate will be quick to learn new systems and technologies, have an interest in current and emerging technology trends and will have subject matter expertise around infrastructure and IAM. They will also have a basic knowledge of related disciplines, such as networking. They should be organised and able to manage their time when dealing with multiple priorities, keeping calm under pressure. After a suitable training period the successful candidate will be expected to join the paid on-call rota.
