The role

Simmons & Simmons has a market leading Derivatives practice (ranked Tier 1 in Legal 500 2017). We hold a unique position amongst the other premier law firms operating in this sector in that not only do we advise investment banks, but also act as the adviser of choice to the most powerful and sophisticated end-users in the European derivatives market, including the largest hedge fund and institutional asset managers.

We are seeking to recruit an outstanding Supervising Associate to join this exciting and expanding buy-side Derivatives team. You will have exposure to a wide variety of work which will include negotiation, advisory and transactional elements, including:

  • Analysing and negotiating the full spectrum of derivative and trading documentation for hedge fund and other asset management clients
  • Monitoring and providing strategic advice to buy-side clients on all regulatory developments impacting the derivatives market, including EMIR, SFTR, MiFID2, BMR and BRRD.
  • Collaborating with fund lawyers on fund prospectuses, investment management agreements and other fund documentation.
  • Assisting the Banking and Project Finance departments by drafting or reviewing derivative hedging instruments for financing transactions.

Person/Role specification

The successful candidate must have:

  • Excellent academics
  • Applicants will ideally have between 3 and 4 years’ post qualification Derivatives experience which will have been gained at another leading City practice
  • Driven and proactive approach to work
  • Ability to work build and maintain constructive relationships and networks with a variety of different individuals at different levels of seniority
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to provide a quality service to both internal and external clients
  • Creative approach to problems and an openness to new ideas
