Clifford Chance's Litigation & Dispute Resolution ("L&DR") practice is recognised as market leading and works with many of the world's pre-eminent financial institutions and multinational corporations. The purpose of this role is to lead on the client & market development of the Global Arbitration practice strategy as well support on the C&MD for the London L&DR practice area.

This is a hands-on, proactive and strategically important position to support the co-heads of the Global International Arbitration Practice, who are based in London and Paris, and partners and lawyers across the global group. As part of the C&MD team supporting the L&DR practice, the individual will work with the Global International Arbitration group, providing the full range of business development ("BD") services. The role will act as an interface between product group lawyers and the wider C&MD team to facilitate the flow of information, the identification of cross-selling opportunities and delivery of BD initiatives.

  • Shape the Arbitration Practice business planning process by working closely with Heads and Partners
  • Refresh and articulate the global Arbitration targeting strategy in line with the firm's strategy for right markets, right clients and right work

Opportunities

  • Lead on complex, bespoke and cross border Arbitration pitches. Oversee the effective pursuit of opportunities, including everything from coaching lawyers, to developing pricing models, to providing pitching templates
  • Strategic practice area development by proactively spotting opportunities and develop positioning statements to impact pipeline
  • Research and analysis of prospective clients and market opportunities
  • Manage the cross-practice production of strategically significant RfP responses, pitches and credential statements
  • Drive win/loss reviews and client feedback
  • Develop and maintain processes for the effective production of best practice material
  • Manage and improve the process for capturing client matter information

Marketing, Campaigns & Communications

  • Lead on Reputation management. Take an external view with the aim to build profile and pipeline opportunities e.g. sponsorships, PR and other business development campaigns
  • Oversee multiple marcomms projects, including the delivery of directory/awards submissions, client briefings and product positioning statements
  • Support global, local and cross-practice initiatives and flow of information across wider global client teams and BD teams around the Firm. Oversee and improve the directory and awards submissions
  • Working in collaboration with the Events team, plan business development campaigns and client events
  • Coordinate (with Marketing) client focused marketing plans
  • Manage (with Communications) relevant internal communications (such as newsletters and intranet sites)

Client Focus

  • Take a leadership role in client relationship management, by applying depth of product knowledge to support client programmes that run across the L&DR practices
  • Manage client account(s) and take lead role in client planning, client development and client feedback initiative
  • Work with Client Development Managers on Arbitration and broader L&DR related strategic client activity

Line Management

Shape the effectiveness of the C&MD team by managing individual(s) by objectivesBuild strong working relationship with peers and more junior C&MD team members across the firm

In order to perform this role successfully, the candidate will require:

  • Strong experience in professional services business development within a professional services environment
  • Proven experience of working within global organisations with matrix structure
  • Ideally you will have knowledge of Arbitration or Litigation with high interest of market trends in this space
  • Strong stakeholder management across all levels
  • Outstanding commercial awareness
