Job Description

Reporting into the Internal Communications Manager, we have a great opportunity for someone to come and join the team with creative flair and ambition to work within a diverse and exciting business. We have exciting changes happening and you could be the ideal person to help us tell everyone about it!

  • Support establishment and implementation of internal communication strategy to support business growth and drive levels of employee engagement across all areas of the organisation.
  • Ensure organisational purpose, strategy initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications channels including Intranet, Team Brief and All Employee Briefings.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders.
  • Storyboard or translate ideas into compelling communication campaigns.
  • Manage campaigns, channels and messages, acting on feedback to continuously improve.
  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organisation.
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages.
  • Respond to feedback from employees and adjust communications content accordingly.
  • Manage projects such all Senior Management Conferences and All Employee Briefings.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practise to drive progress in our internal communications approach.
  • Organise own workload and help to manage the effective functioning of Internal communications channels

Qualifications

Key skills

Writing skills: You’ll need excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees

Speaking skills: You’ll also need strong speaking skills as you are likely to be called on to give presentations to staff. Sensitivity to an organisation’s goals and values and the ability to relay them to employees and stakeholders is also essential

Interpersonal/Listening skills: You’ll need good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with key stakeholders and the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.

Creative skills: You’ll need the creative ability to devise communication strategies, while digital skills, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential.

Commercial Skills: Ensuring that our communication approach a key driver of business success is a fundamental aspect of the role, so developing an in-depth understanding the sector we work in will be crucial.

Personal accountability: You’ll need to act under your own steam, seeking support and guidance when appropriate, but with the knowledge and motivation to get things done at speed and to a high standard.

Intuition: You’ll be able to spot an opportunity to improve communications, with an instinct for the correct course of action and the belief to deliver it. Based on internal comms expertise you’ll add extra value by showing stakeholders what good looks like with the strength and resilience to inspire and manage change.

Due to the nature of our business, all employment is subject to satisfactory references being obtained, attainment of either an MoD SC (Security Check), appropriate UK Criminal Record Check or Foreign Police Check (whichever is applicable depending on duration of UK residency) and, as applicable, a medical assessment. Access to US technical data by employees requires prior Trade Control function approval. Clearance must be carried out against all applicable US export control authorisations.
