Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Managing Editor to join our outstanding team of security professionals based in London. International SOS is world’s leading organization in the business of protecting and saving lives, when involved in medical or security situations.

The Managing Editor provides leadership to the London-based and Philadelphia-based editorial team supporting our 24/7 security intelligence operations and consulting solutions. They are responsible for ensuring the provision of timely, accurate and actionable online and consulting content meeting the highest editorial standards.

His/Her main responsibilities include :

  • Oversee publication and maintenance of timely and accurate online security content and consulting products.
  • Provide direct management of London- and Philadelphia-based editors, including performance development.
  • Ensure adequate editorial coverage for 24-7 security operations through the efficient management of editorial shifts.
  • Oversee the regular review of, and take responsibility for, the quality of all editorial output of direct reports.
  • Maintain close interaction with Regional Security Centre colleagues to provide high quality editorial support to security operations, including helping to guide reporting consistency, priorities and coverage.
  • Working with the Senior Managing Editor, maintain and apply editorial quality management processes, including reporting thresholds, guidelines and house style.
  • Working with the Senior Managing Editor and Head of Security Intelligence, identify and implement process improvements in content management and distribution software, systems and processes to ensure that our security content remains the information source of choice for our clients.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Information and Analysis team to ensure consistency in all online content.
  • Support the development and training of Security Specialists and Managers, and ensure they receive regular editorial feedback to achieve high standards of written communications.
  • Draft, edit and publish security content as required.
  • Respond to client queries / feedback on online security content as required.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Significant editorial experience ideally in a news or current affairs environment
  • Experience of driving quality management programs and delivering measurable improvements
  • Experience of writing for a business audience.

  • Positive and impactful leadership skills; ability to manage diverse teams in a cross-cultural and/or remote context
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism, politics or international relations or a related field
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Use of basic content management systems
  • Excellent knowledge of global geography

Travel / Rotation Requirements

  • Travel may be required to other work locations.
  • Five shifts per seven days according to shift schedule as appropriate.
