THE MARKETING TEAM

As traditional revenue streams of print advertising and paid-for circulation decline, there is a need to adjust the focus of our marketing programmes and ways of working. Traditionally, marketing has focused almost entirely on promotional offers however this is evolving to a more comprehensive programme.

Marketing now needs to deliver a profitable return in investment, using data and customer insight to drive our performance by developing deeper relationships with our customers and vendors.

The Junior Data Analyst will support a variety of teams within the marketing function in diverse data related projects to help drive the Mail’s performance focusing on the key business drivers of;

(1) newspaper circulation

(2) brand engagement

(3) customer loyalty

(4) revenue

THE ROLE

We are now looking to hire a highly numerate Junior Data Analyst to review and optimise the circulation process alongside wider Customer Data and Marketing based data projects. The candidate needs to have proven data analysis skills through either a STEM degree or via a university work placement where data was used in a business environment. The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate a strategic approach to help ensure that the best solutions are identified and implemented in a way that suits the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Circulation Planning Manager to understand existing supply methods, and formulate ways to improve day-to-day processes and use of data
  • Working with Senior Data Analysts, Planning Manager and the Customer Data team on a broad range of Marketing data project
  • Data analysis to identify retailers to whom we can either increase or decrease supply in order to improve profitability
  • Set targets, monitor KPIs and measure and report on success
  • Track allocations performance of competitors and effects that could have on the Mail
  • Interact daily with Circulation team, Data & Strategy Team and present findings to key stakeholders including the Head of Circulation and Chief Marketing Officer

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • An enthusiastic and committed self-starter who is comfortable working on their own initiative and as part of a team
  • Expert Microsoft Excel skills to aid data manipulation, investigation and analysis
  • Proven data analysis skills and an ability to work confidently with detailed data sets
  • Highly numerate with an eye for detail and the ability to translate raw numbers into actionable insight
  • Excellent problem solving skills, through an inquisitive and investigative approach to data
  • Skills and experience in statistical packages or software would also be a big advantage
  • Experience in strategy, consulting, project management and media or the supply chain are also desirable but not essential
