Bayer Crop Science R&D team in Bergschenhoek is looking for an Automation Manager.

The successful candidate will drive automation and efficiency in the day to day operations within the Vegetable Seeds R&D team using innovative approaches.  The candidate will analyze the current practices, show opportunity areas for optimization, build business cases including the financial and/or operational benefits; get buy in from peers, partners and management and ensure successful implementation. It is key in this role to align with global stakeholders and ensure to implement technologies that are leveraged across all of our global sites. The candidate should also scout for new horticultural technologies available in the market with a focus on automation and sustainability 

The candidate should demonstrate effective analytical skills, drives change and together with the R&D team maximize the output of the R&D programs to deliver innovative, integrated solutions to delight our customers which enables them to sustainably supply the world with delicious fruits and vegetables.

Your main responsibilities

  • Drive automation and efficiency in day to day R&D operational processes and activities; aligned with the global R&D objectives.
  • Provide the support in equipment maintenance and automation of process in the green house and post-harvest processes
  • Partner with stakeholders, to visualize optimization areas, set the right priorities and start up projects; generating labor-, resources-, costs- and waste reduction.
  • Responsible for statistical analyses of results and subsequent decision making, including oral and written communications.
  • Visualize the impact on operational spend (OPEX) and give input for long range investments (CAPEX).
  • Use LEAN and SIX SIGMA practices to maximize the research outcome.
  • Actively search for the latest innovations available in agriculture and connect with leading companies who can deliver the newest high-tech tools to optimize our practices.
  • Participate as member of the local management team and use problem solving skills to support the organization
  • Be ambassador of the HSE and QMS practices and ensure the new developments are meeting the necessary requirements.

Who you are

Functional competences

  • Innovative and result oriented leadership capability.
  • Excellent communications skills in English and Dutch, both oral and in writing, including the capability to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral or written communications.
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills. Capability to act in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues.
  • Capacity to working with people and lead people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to achieve goals and project objectives jointly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced global and multi-cultural vegetable seed company.
  • Use of statistical analysis in problem solving and decision making. 
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). 
  • Horticultural (crop) knowledge
  • Highly dedicated and proactive

Experience and qualifications

  • MSc in plant sciences, engineering, process management or a technical master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of crop production and farming practices in vegetable agronomy.
  • Six Sigma/ Lean Certification
  • Agronomic background or knowledge.
  • Experience with statistical tools.
