DESCRIPTION

We’re a small, friendly team of 35, attempting to solve the biggest problem facing small businesses - cashflow.

We’re using engineering and machine learning to provide real-time forecasting that really helps small businesses and their accountants to be more confident in their decisions, and allow business owners to sleep a little better at night! We recently got recognised for our hard work by making into Wired’s top 10 European startups.

We’re now looking for a collaborative and humble Fullstack Engineer to help us focus on scaling out the product as we bring on more users, working with some amazing engineers and data scientists to make that happen.

Where you can have impact

  • Help solve the challenges of user engagement by building simple, intuitive UIs, experimenting quickly and cheaply and gathering direct feedback. You'll collaborate closely with product and UX to make this happen.
  • Define and deliver features in a rapidly evolving market. We're defining a new category, so we don't know all the questions, let alone the answers. Your input is essential.
  • Decide how build the next version of the web application: currently we're full stack Javascript (React + Node). There are a lot of decisions to be made as we scale, so experience going through those changes would be ideal.
  • Global expansion - we are scaling rapidly in the UK, the next step is to open in other markets, we'll need help building an app that works across continents.
  • Continuous deployment - every commit goes directly to production, so you will have an extremely fast feedback cycle, but this also requires a very high bar in quality. Prior experience in this type of environment would be ideal.

REQUIREMENTS

Who you are

Skills:

  • You’re comfortable working across the stack, but particularly using core javascript, with and without frameworks. We use React and Express, and although it would be great to see people with experience using these in production, please do not rule yourself out if you haven’t.
  • You’re comfortable with core programming and software development, and might have used React & Node.js in production before.
  • You’re interested in automating repetitive tasks.
  • You are customer centric and work well with product owners.

You’re comfortable working with some (does not need to be all) of the following:

  • Node.js
  • React.js
  • Redux
  • Express
  • Ava test runner
  • Kubernetes
  • ES6 with Babel via Webpack
  • MongoDB
  • Postgres
  • Docker
  • Redis
  • Git

Knowledge:

  • You’re ideally product focused and understand the balance between speed of delivery and quality.
  • If you have experienced scaling a system / team that’s also great, we would love people who have built up experience in this area.
  • You’ve failed at things before. You’ve seen it, lived it and learnt from it and can help us identify potential pitfalls.
  • You have an entrepreneurial streak, with some great examples of how you saw an opportunity and made it happen.

Behaviours:

  • You ain't gonna need it (YAGNI).
  • You’re a great communicator and want to understand the commercial impact and play nicely with product.
  • You know when to be decisive and when to ensure decisions are made quickly and efficiently.
  • You have strong opinions weakly held - you can defend a position, but give it up easily when consensus is against you even if you're right.
  • You’re humble, no room for brilliant jerks
  • You’re a strong team player, knows how to get others to work well together

  • Your choice of the best kit money can buy. Even that absurdly priced escape-key-less macbook. If you want it.

At Fluidly we’re defining a new category of Intelligent Cashflow to help business owners sleep better at night by forecasting and optimising their finances.
