Job Purpose:

  • To provide investment services to the highest standards to investment managers and clients in line with the Company’s business objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Portfolio management for a broad array of advisory and discretionary individual, family and trust portfolios, subject to the special needs of each client; including management of liquidity needs, traditional equity and fixed income portfolios, and alternative investments as appropriate in each situation.
  • Manage both discretionary and advisory client investment portfolios (principally stocks, shares and collective investments). Includes asset allocation and stock selection.
  • Conduct regular reviews of client portfolios for the ongoing suitability of investments.
  • Assist investment managers to ensure all communications from clients are actioned promptly and efficiently.
  • Deal for clients in stocks, shares, collectives and structured products on an execution-only basis or as instructed.
  • Put together schemes of investments for new clients and produce investment proposal document from BITA.
  • Assist with the preparation of BITA schemes and risk profiling
  • Monitor BITA outliers and ensure that each outlier is dealt with or marked with an explanation.
  • Active participation in the development of investment strategies for clients in coordination with the rest of the portfolio management team.
  • Put together rationales for deals on client accounts.
  • Keep abreast of market investment information and maintain a working knowledge of all professional developments to help the investment managers ensure this is acted upon in the Company’s and the clients’ interests.
  • Present market, company and fund information to other members of the team and the wider office; both verbally and in writing.
  • Delegate and monitor appropriate duties to support staff.
  • Represent Charles Stanley as required at marketing events and presentations.
  • Ensure full implementation and adherence to personnel and health & safety policies and procedures.
  • Personal compliance with all regulatory issues and promotion of a compliance culture throughout the office.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fully RDR compliant with minimum CISI Level 4 or other benchmark qualification.
  • FCA authorised. Current or previous CF30 with advisory and discretionary permissions.
  • Experience in portfolio management for private clients (individuals and families) including investment research, balanced portfolio management, asset allocation and alternative investment strategies.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of financial services organisations with a particular focus on relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of investment processes and techniques with the ability to quickly become conversant with Charles Stanley products and services.
  • Comply with Charles Stanley Training and Competence Scheme.
  • Comply with Charles Stanley Investment Management Practice Manual.
  • General financial planning awareness.
  • High level and broad market awareness.
  • Knowledge of the FCA Conduct of Business Rules and Money Laundering Regulations 1993.
  • Full understanding of TCF.
  • Operate a methodical and organised approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Articulate and diplomatic at all times.
  • Possess strong negotiation skills, resilience and be able to challenge and contribute effectively.
  • Operate with a business-focussed approach.
