Your opportunity

We are currently seeking a trainee accountant to join a growing accounts team to assist with maintaining the financial records and the preparation of the accounts for pension schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong financial skills. 

Your role

As a Trainee Accountant, you will be there to support your senior team members and undertake the following duties:

  • Support the team in the basic preparation of accounts for a portfolio of pension schemes using Sage Line 50 and other similar accounting systems
  • Preparing working papers and reconciliations to support the financial statements through Sage Line 50 and other similar accounting systems
  • Detailing income and expenditure
  • Posting journals
  • Planning of annual audits and liaise with the team to establish timetables
  • Liaise with auditors throughout the process to accounts sign off
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Cashbooks and other cash management reporting
  • Reconciliation of investment and AVC data, and other information
  • Completion of tax returns
  • Assisting with pension payroll process
  • Administrative tasks within the team
  • Working to agreed deadlines so as to deliver a high quality and efficient service to clients

You will be based in a Deloitte Belfast office, however travel may be required for client based projects. Whilst some clients are London based, we do spend time on site with regional and international clients. We specify full mobility for our consulting roles but we make arrangements respectfully, there may be some opportunity for working from home depending on client demands.

Your professional experience

To qualify for the role the candidate must have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's including English and Maths at Grade A* - C
  • 3 A levels or equivalent to include maths or maths related subject
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of computerised systems e.g. Microsoft Office/Windows applications, especially in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good interpersonal skills to ensure collaboration with administration, actuarial and consultancy team
