Our Role

SSE Enterprise Division has an opportunity to join the Distributed Energy (DE) team to support the delivery of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) projects at a time when there is significant focus on increasing our portfolio within the EVCI sector. We are looking for a qualified quantity surveyor to work with us in delivering these projects.

Your role is to support each project manager with management of commercial aspects on high value/risk projects while managing all commercial aspects including change management, contract correspondence and costs on multiple smaller projects. You’ll be responsible for commercial oversight for projects and to achieve the objectives set out by the commercial manager by providing advice and guidance on business strategy for new contracts while also overseeing all projects within your remit.

You will also provide strategic commercial direction to the commercial manager, communicating the responsibilities and developments within the team whilst ensuring the activities meet the needs of the projects and respective business area. You will drive value through innovation, implementing a continuous improvement philosophy and lead, develop and grow the skills and capability of your team through rigorous implementation of performance management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

As an experienced Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be able to analyse and interpret numerical data and have strong contract drafting and writing skills, from experience gained through interpreting construction contracts. The ideal candidate will have great working knowledge of NEC conditions of contract, along with experience in estimating, cost and budget management, contract administration, payment and expenditure management.

A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required for this position, while professional qualifications such as MRICS are also desirable.

Good IT skills are essential including knowledge of all MS Office applications. Knowledge of the strategic supply management system, Emptoris, and Oracle purchase systems would be beneficial.

Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full UK driving license is essential. This role will involve some UK overnight travel and may include the opportunity to be site based if required.
