An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior VDI engineer to join our team in Bolton.

You will be a concise, confident and professional communicator with the ability to communicate and interact with clients, stakeholders, senior management and colleagues. You will have a broad understanding of IT systems, architectures and infrastructures with the ability to translate these into innovative and effective solutions to business needs

Key Responsibilities Include:

In this role you can expect to focus on improving BAU service delivery and the following areas:

  • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives to ensure a stable and reliable VDI to underpin a significant proportion of the overall EUC service
  • Provide technical support, incident management and problem management across the VDI domains.
  • Ensure the performance and availability of the VDI solution is consistently within agreed SLAs
  • Production of Technical RFC’s in line with BAU activities
  • Maintenance and support of key delivery platforms such as SCCM, MDT, Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
  • Plan and support upgrades of technology within the VDI supported domains across the partnership.
  • Ensure that all Incidents and Service Requests are proactively managed.
  • Support the Major Incident team to provide swift problem resolution as needed
  • Assist in the delivery of project works as and when required.
  • Ensure systems are patched securely maintaining the highest level of availability, reliability and performance.
  • Provide support and advice to end users to aid full exploitation of VDI solutions across applications and processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of IT VDI architecture, standards and practices and consistently applies these standards
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to facilitate efficient planning, execution and support within BAU

Key Knowledge Requirements

Essential Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solutions such as VMware Horizon View or Citrix.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Operating Systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory
  • Advanced knowledge of SCCM
  • Strong working knowledge of IT security (firewalls, antivirus etc)
  • Production knowledge of Microsoft Office product suite - not just using it, but installing and troubleshooting common user queries
  • Knowledge and understanding of PC builds, motherboards, CPUs, memory, disks etc.
  • Support of VDI environment across multiple installations
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows 10 technologies covering support, maintenance build developments.
  • Through understanding of Thin and Thick client hardware and software technologies.
  • Excellent skills in VDI problem management
  • Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment
  • Desktop OS imaging building and testing through SCCM, VMWare and MDT.
  • VDI device and application patch management
  • Automation skills around scripting and application delivery
  • MSI and Windows Installer technology

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience working in a demanding VDI role with a large client base 5000+ users
  • Solid experience and understanding of IT governance processes
  • Demonstrable experience in end user design, Application rationalisation, virtualisation and presentation.
  • Experience in public and private sector client environments.
  • Experience in supporting and maintaining large scale EUC systems such as SCCM, VDI,
  • Experience and good understanding of cloud based EUC technologies such as Microsoft Intune, Office 365, RDS and modern desktop infrastructure technologies.
  • ITIL Foundation
