WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a high-resolution radar imaging technique used in airborne and spaceborne radars. In recent years TNO has developed a novel compact airborne radar called AMBER, Affordable Multi-Beam Radar. This multi-channel radar is much smaller than existing systems with comparable performance and its development aims at small and unmanned aircraft (UAV). Furthermore, novel radar imaging modes have been demonstrated exploiting the 24 receive channels in this system Many more radar modes have been conceived, but have not yet been implemented.

The goal of this assignment is to implement a so-called Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar mode for high resolution imaging of moving ships or vehicles from the air. The algorithms must be defined, implemented and tested on previously recorded flight data. Depending on the duration of the assignment, the work may include participation in conducting new (flight) tests and processing of the resulting data.

The duration of this internship is at least 3 months.

WHAT DO WE REQUIRE OF YOU?

  • You are in the final stages of your degree in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering or a similar degree and you have a track record in the field of signal processing;
  • You have experience in programming in Matlab, you are pragmatic and focused on making things work;
  • Some skill in programming in C and Java is a plus;
  • Next to technical expertise we value communication skills and a results-driven attitude.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT OF YOUR WORK SITUATION?

You will perform this assignment in the department of Radar Technology. We are a passionate and creative group of professionals (60 people) dedicated to the specification, development and evaluation of innovative, high-performance MMICs, miniaturised and integrated RF subsystems, antennas and front-ends. The department is at the heart of novel, game-changing radar system and signal processing concepts for the military, space and civil domains.

You can find more information about the department of Radar Technology here (in Dutch).
