JOB PURPOSE

Successful candidate will oversee all transit, ecommerce and retail paper / cardboard packaging developments. Technical expert responsible for end to end new product development, product improvement, quality assurance and implementation of standardised procedures for cardboard packaging development.

This role will be the key liaison with internal as well as external partners / manufacturers, focusing on the on-time delivery within agreed technical and quality specifications as well as cost targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To lead end to end technical packaging development - paper, corrugate, cardboard
  • To implement a standardised procedure for technical packaging developments
  • To define packaging testing requirements in accordance to Burberry quality standards
  • (transit, compatibility tests, industrialisation trials)
  • To identify ways to improve existing packaging portfolio (cost, quality and productivity)
  • To advise both internally and externally on all technical, industrial and economic constraints that might impact product design or product delivery at all stages of the development
  • To create development timetables and programme manage the delivery against pre-identified milestones, highlight any potential risks to the programme
  • To create and maintain appropriate product data base (technical briefs, technical specifications, drawings, artworks and technical reports)
  • To analyse and approve suppliers’ technical drawings for production launch
  • To attend start of production (where required) to define technical objectives and acceptable defect range boards in accordance to Burberry quality expectations
  • To manage field testing in hubs and stores
  • To monitor the various packaging design activity stages covered by the Creative Team and raise awareness of potential risks or milestone conflicts
  • Partner with QA/C and Responsibility Teams to ensure quality standards are met for all products

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Previous experience in cardboard / paper packaging development
  • Cardboard Packaging development, industrialisation and technical drawing experience
  • Strong end to end understanding of Supply Chain Operations
  • Materials knowledge, understanding of processing and printing techniques
  • Extended knowledge of paper/ board conversion processes
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Experience working across complex projects
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with peers and cross-functional business partners
  • Adaptable with good communication skills
