This makes Thales one of Europe's largest electronics companies and it has an extremely strong position worldwide.     In the Netherlands we have five offices:


    Our head office, with approximately 1,500 staff. Since 1922, this office has been the global leader in the latest and most innovative technologies in the field of radar systems for naval vessels.


    At this office, approximately 300 people work in communication systems and networks, optronic systems, solutions in the field of cyber security and the installation and maintenance of public transport chip devices.


    The Research & Development division is located here. With approximately 25 employees, here we focus on R&D activities in the field of radar technology and radar systems. This office works closely together with the TU Delft.


    With approximately 100 employees, Thales Cryogenics focuses on the development and manufacture of cryogenic cooling systems.


    With approximately 20 employees, the T-Xchange is the Thales R&D lab that was set up in collaboration with Twente University. Here, we mainly focus on "Serious Gaming".

  3. Innovation


    Thales Nederland, headquartered in Hengelo, is a relatively small company. Nevertheless, it offers the broadest product portfolio in the world and Thales has become the second largest naval radar producer in the world. How is that possible?

    In the 85 years of its existence, Thales-NL has, under various names including the famous "Signaal", established a tradition of being highly innovative. For instance, in the sixties, the company was the first to develop a digital fire control radar. This was followed by the first digital multibeam surveillance radar and the first non-rotating active phased array radar. More recently, Thales-NL proved to be the first to produce a naval surveillance radar that is capable of detecting and tracking a Tactical Ballistic Missile. At present the company is focussing its innovative powers on the development of an integrated sensor mast that will again redefine the standard in naval radar technology.

    All around the world, the needs and requirements of navies are different. A few European navies, for instance the German and Dutch navies, have committed themselves to be frontrunners in technological developments. Other navies have set their aspirations at a more modest level. For Thales-NL both types of navies are interesting. Its product range includes both high-end products as well as lower-budget sensors.

    Thales-NL is not an isolated radar developer. At various levels it cooperates with its largest customer, the Royal Netherlands Navy, in order to develop exactly what this ambitious customer requires. Further, the company maintains good relations with various science and research institutes, such as the universities of Enschede and Delft, and TNO, the Dutch Association for Applied Scientific Research.

    Thales Nederland specializes in designing and producing integrated naval command and control, sensor, and communications systems, as well as ground-based air defence systems and telecommunication equipment.

    The naval product portfolio holds products that are suited to all classes of vessels, ranging from small high-speed intercept craft to destroyers, LPDs and even aircraft carriers. The wide range of sensors available allows sensor suites to be tailored to the precise requirements of any type of ship or weapon system and any mission.

    A relatively new market segment is maritime safety and security. Naval vessels and other high-value maritime objects need to be protected against asymmetrical threats such as terrorists and pirates. Thales Nederland uses its vast experience in naval systems to develop sensors especially for littoral environments.

    Land Forces, Air Forces and Borderguards are supplied with low level air defence surveillance sensors, ground surveillance sensors, communication systems and hand-held electro-optic devices.

    Supporting our customers, Thales Nederland provides comprehensive integrated training and service to customers in more than 40 countries around the globe.

    It is a matter of course that our terms of employment include more than just a good salary. After all people are our principal resources. We empower them through our people management system and our University in France as well as our own Training and Development department in Hengelo. It is a primary responsibility of both the employee as the management to develop the employees' skills, competencies & careers.

    A random selection of our terms of employment: As a recent bachelor or master graduate you have a starting salary between Euro 25.000,- and 30.000,- Annual increments are subject to your own performance. Subject to the relevant guidelines, employees will be paid a bonus that is connected with the state of affairs. At the end of December employees receive a payment of 2% of the annual salary at that time. You will be given the opportunity to participate in the Salary/Savings Scheme. On top of that we have our own very beneficiary pension fund.

    You have flexible working hours and it is also up to you to decide about your number of holidays. Your standard is 38 days off, and you can either buy or sell up to 10 days. You can use your profit for example for extra education, fitness or day care.
