Investment position at henQ

Position title: Investment team member

Location: Partly Amsterdam, partly where you work best

Workload: Full-time, with varying intensity

Compensation: Negotiable

The challenge

henQ is looking for a new Investment team member to join our team. Responsible for henQ’s deal flow, you are a key-player in henQ’s growth and success. Are you interested in working in Venture Capital, do you get excited by building companies and are you up for the challenge to make henQ one of the most successful B2B software venture capital firms in Europe? Then read on!

About henQ

henQ Capital Partners (henq.nl) is managed by a small team of six individuals, each with our own expertise, responsibilities and added value to our portfolio. henQ’s latest fund (henQ III) is a €50 million venture capital fund, from which we invest in business-to-business (B2B) software companies in the BeNeLux and Europe. In our work we are driven by three core values:

  • The love for building companies. Not only sexy, world changing companies, but also the decent and predictable ones. As long as a business has the potential to grow profitably, we get excited from the prospect of helping it get the most out of its team and market opportunity.
  • Complete freedom in how you achieve results. Within henQ, our goals and targets are clear. How each and everyone of us achieves his or her goals is completely up to them. We align one Monday during our team-weekly and the rest of the week everybody goes their own way. Life at henQ resembles that of an entrepreneur, more than that of an employee.
  • Aim for success. We believe there is no point in doing something without giving it your absolute best and achieving top results. We all joined henQ because we believe our approach and ambition, in addition to our individual contribution, will make us the best in our trade.

About the role

As Investment team member your main responsibility is to manage henQ’s deal flow. This consists of two main pillars:

  • Managing our inbound deal flow. I.e. the investment opportunities we receive via our website, personal & professional network, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Hunting the BeNeLux and wider Europe for B2B, seed and pre-series A software companies that we have not seen yet through our inbound deal flow, through an efficiently organized outbound search process.

On a day-to-day basis, the above means a substantial amount of desk research and skim reading through the investor decks that are sent to henQ on a weekly basis. Quick and professional follow-up with companies is required. You will have to quickly reject dozens of highly like-able and ambitious entrepreneurs each month, as we have a very strict investment focus and invest in less than 1% of all the companies we look at.

Depending on how well you manage your core responsibility of deal flow, there is always room to take on additional projects and challenges within henQ or the portfolio (e.g. improving inbound marketing for different portfolio companies, joining in board meetings, etc.). Moreover, if you fit the team and the role of venture capitalist, there are no limits within henQ in achieving your ambitions of becoming a great investor.

Skills & interests

Having the skills, interests and stamina needed for this role, is far more important than specific experience. We are looking for a team-member who:

  • Masters prioritization and time management.
  • Is a selective perfectionist; you need to know what is urgent and what not, when something needs to be perfect and when it doesn’t.
  • Understands what value means to an investor and recognizes it in practice. Without knowing all the numbers you recognize potential profitability through competitive advantage.
  • Has a knack for pinpointing how technical trends make a specific type of company a market leader 5-10 years from now. You understand (or are trying very hard to understand) who the winning players in any competitive landscape will be. Knowing that “Virtual Reality” and “Artificial intelligence” are the future does not suffice; you want to learn to explain why certain trends are economically significant, how and when they will materialize, and who will be the winners to invest in.
  • Has basic programming skills.

Motivation & character

You will be happy and successful as an Investment team member if you recognize yourself in henQ's core values. Our compact team has a strong identity that feeds on freedom and independence. In addition you want to show your value in a complete meritocracy, in which resume nor seniority will limit or protect you from the true level of your own competencies. A slightly non-conformist attitude will bring you a long way; if there is a fit, the sky is the limit to what you can achieve.

Apply by sending an email with your to the point motivation and your resume to naomi@henq.nl. We look forward to welcoming our seventh henQ team-member!
