EDF Energy is a core part of the EDF Group and is one of the largest energy companies in Europe with key business operations in France, the UK, Germany and Italy. In the UK we have approximately 15,000 employees. We are the UK’s leading generator and supplier of low carbon energy. We produce about one-fifth of the nation’s electricity from our nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat and power plants. We have a focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence. We intend to play a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK and secure a ‘bright’ future for the combined business and its employees.
Business Unit Overview
At EDF Energy, we’re committed to helping our customers in any way we can. We are responsible for maximising the long term value of our residential and business customers; we create an integrated approach to energy sourcing, pricing strategy, and deliver to the needs of our customers. We sell electricity and gas to over 5.5 million residential and business customers, making us the largest supplier of electricity by volume. We also run customer facing activities including field sales and meter reading services. We’re committed to ‘getting it right first time’, making sure that service is continually improved & our approach to Customers is driven by our sustainability agenda, which means we behave as a socially and environmentally responsible company. We are the largest business unit within EDF Energy with over 8,000 employees spread across 50 locations. Working in a competitive marketplace means we need high performing people who have the skills, experience, systems knowledge and leadership abilities to provide support and guidance in line with our ‘right first time’ policy.
Our 10 week summer placements provide an excellent opportunity to gain insights into life and work at EDF Energy. We’ll provide you with challenging assignments – and all the support you’ll need to make the most of the experience - and at the end of your placement you may even be offered the opportunity to be assessed for one of our Graduate Programmes.
Nature and Scope
Within our commercial internships you could be supporting large-scale business projects within our transformation teams; analysing figures coming out of the business to help us understand our costs or prices; or working with our HR Teams working towards attracting, rewarding and retaining the very best people
We have high expectations for the students we take on: we’re looking for people at any stage of their university education who are genuinely interested in the energy sector, and who want to take ownership of their experience on the placement.
When you apply we’ll ask you about your areas of interest, location preferences and availability to work.
There will be a pause as we review applications and we’ll let you know as soon as possible if we have an opportunity that matches your preferences and skills set. We may not be in touch until 2018, as business requirements are submitted throughout the year, however we’ll update you at the earliest opportunity.
Skills and Qualifications
We’re eager for you to achieve a great deal – and we want to see that eagerness reflected in you, too. You don’t need to be an expert already, but you’ll be working towards a degree in Economics, Business Management/Analysis, Maths, Finance, Management, Marketing, Statistics or Science.
We also consider students studying HR, Marketing, PR, Journalism or Media for our HR and Communications placements.
On top of that, you’ll have the strong communication skills, team working skills and innovative ideas to really influence the way we do things.
