Software Development Engineer Graduate - Book Depository
London, United Kingdom
As one of the world’s fastest growing booksellers, The Book Depository (bookdepository.com) exists to offer a large range of titles in the world, available for dispatch within 48 hours. Founded in 2004 to make ‘All Books to All’ we focus on selling ‘less of more’ rather than ‘more of less’, differentiating ourselves from other retailers who increasingly focus on bestsellers. Having forged unique publisher and supplier relationships, we have the ability to dispatch over 14 million titles within 48 hours, with free worldwide delivery, outstanding customer service, a wide choice of payment currencies and free shipping to millions of customers in over 130 countries. In November 2011 The Book Depository was acquired by Amazon. The Book Depository is based in London UK (HQ), Gloucester UK (Fulfilment Centre) and Alexandria, Egypt (Operations).
After building several generations of bookdepository.com using LAMP and PHP, we’re now also adopting Java and Amazon technologies. The Intern will join our London development team, to grow and improve our existing systems and to deliver exciting new features using Amazon’s unique technology platform. Working in our agile development team, this internship role will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, launching new and valuable customer-facing website features.
Our developers collaborate closely with The Book Depository’s commercial and leadership teams in the UK and with Amazon technical teams worldwide. Our ideal candidate will actively take advantage of this wealth of technical, creative and commercial experience to deliver astounding solutions as part of a hard-working, fast-moving, passionate and effective team.
Alongside the exceptional opportunities to grow your technical and non-technical skills we’ll make sure you’re well rewarded. As well as a competitive salary and stock units we offer benefits including 25 days plus public holidays, pension scheme, medical cover and employee discounts… plus the excellent long-term development prospects you’d expect from Earth’s leading online retailer!
If you have a bachelors in Computer Science, or are a postgraduate with a related degree with a strong grounding in Computer Science and Software Engineering, we want to talk to you.
Technology-wise we’re looking for people with proven skills in Java or C++. Knowledge of LAMP or PHP would also be a plus, as would experience of OO design, micro-service design patterns and web services.
If you’re innovative, motivated, passionate about designing and building world-class systems, and eager to see your software used by millions of customers, The Book Depository is the place for you. This is your opportunity to work in a unique environment surrounded by books and book lovers, learn a huge amount about e-commerce and enterprise systems, create robust software to solve real-world problems at huge scale, and be part of a close-knit team who all love creating a unique shopping experience for our customers across the globe.
Our Deadline is December 16th, 2016. We would encourage you to apply early to avoid disappointment.
